Encaustic Artist Statement
The Presence of Non-duality in a Dualistic World
Nancy Sanders art draws from her inward journey of personal introspection of deep
separation, transformation, and connectedness. It explores the mystery of human life
from a multidimensional context, providing the viewer with the possibility of self-reflection
and therefore the possibility of reconciliation.
The composition of the work depicts comparative mind, duality, and split consciousness
through its rough and simultaneously delicate terrain of changing texture, and torn disrupted surface. These disruptions offer a view of irreconcilable opposites. The pieces simultaneously provide subtle entryways into diffuse fields of sameness in color and texture. This perspective underlies and resolves the overall piece, depicting fundamental, intrinsic oneness. The chosen media of encaustic and textile allows for various delicate surface changes and multiple layers
to offer different views of the same object.
